Genesis

The Department of Tourism at Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Post graduate Studies and Research (KMGIPSR) was established in the year 2020 to provide comprehensive and dynamic education in the field of tourism and allied sectors.

The UT of Puducherry has been widely acclaimed as one among the forerunners of Tourism Education in India, as it claims the rare distinction of offering courses in Tourism and Travel, both at the collegiate level and at the University level, since the early 1990’s by realizing the business potentials and need for diverse work force in the ever booming sector of Tourism. The Govt. of Puducherry was pleased to accord sanction to start the PG course in Tourism to promulgate this legacy of imparting quality education in the discipline of Tourism and Travel and thus the Department of Tourism has been started from the 2020-21 academic year at the KMGIPSR, Puducherry.

The Department of Tourism is conceived as a vibrant hub of learning and innovation, which has been dedicated for shaping the future leaders of the travel and tourism industry. Our flagship program, the Master of Tourism and Travel Management (MTTM), is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, working skills, and practical experience that has to be acquired to thrive in this dynamic and rapidly evolving field. The Department strive to prepare students for becoming better tourism professionals by shaping successful careers in the ever-expanding and exciting Industry of Tourism.

At the heart of the MTTM program is a comprehensive curriculum that covers a wide range of topics, including Tourism Concepts, Tourism Products of India, World Tourism Geography, Tourism Marketing, Destination Management, Sustainable Tourism Practices, Hospitality Management, Customer Relationship Management and E- tourism, to name a few. Through a blend of classroom lectures, Industry expert’s talks, case studies, Industry Familiarization/ visits, and hands-on internships/ training, the students are bestowed to gain valuable insights into the diverse facets of the tourism industry and helps them to develop the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities necessary to excel in their careers in Tourism.

Led by a team of experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields, the Department of Tourism fosters a collaborative and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore their interests, pursue their passions, and unleash their full potentials to grow further to become a complete Travel Professional. This conducive teaching- learning environment ranges across organizing (planning & costing) of study tours, participation in industry conferences, or engaging in community outreach initiatives- the students have ample opportunities to apply their classroom learning and translate those into the real-world settings and for acquiring competitive edges in the tourism industry.
